THE DESPERATE WITCH HUNT AGAINST JUDGE ROY MOORE

There’s a distinct smell of hypocrisy in the establishment’s onslaught against constitutional conservative Roy Moore, running for the vacant Senate seat in Alabama. It shows how desperate even establishment Republicans are to stop an arch-conservative from gaining a seat in the Senate. Compared to the avalanche of “me too” accusations against older mature men in entertainment, media, and politics the Washington Post muckrakers had to go back 34 years to find something in the early life of Roy Moore. While I do think many of the accusations about Moore cruising the mall for dates with older high school girls are valid (I don’t buy the attempted rape claim), these lapses in good judgment must be put in the larger perspective of his life since getting married at 33. By all accounts, Moore has been a faithful husband, a religious family man and a staunch defender of both Christian values and the Constitution. The principle of repentance appears to have played a large role in his life. Few media personalities and politicians with sordid moral track records have shown any similar signs of repentance at all.

I do think it’s a positive sign in our culture that women long suppressed from speaking out have started to come forth detailing ways in which powerful and influential men have taken unwanted sexual advantage of them and escaped the consequences. The media has protected those in entertainment and on the political left for too long, but are now forced to air it all.

The latest to be outed is leftist Senator Al Franken. An LA radio host said he forcibly kissed her and released a photo of him apparently groping her during the flight home from a military USO tour. She called his sexual overtures “relentless.” The picture is valuable support for her claims, and something most accusers don’t have. Getting enough legal evidence sufficient to prosecute these cases is very hard since most of these cases of abuse take place in private. There’s always going to be a lot of “he says, she says” but when multiple witnesses come forward the case becomes stronger. Even a few Lefties in Hollywood are calling for Franken to resign.

In Moore’s case, the claims started when the Washington Post sent investigators to scour Alabama in search of dirt on Moore. The Post revealed last week that Moore made romantic advances to 3 young women many years ago when they were between 16 and 18 years old. A worse allegation came from a woman named Leigh Corfman, 53, who said she had a sexual encounter with Moore in 1979, when she was 14 and he was 32. If true, she would have been a minor.

The latest claim of an attempted rape is more damaging but suspect. Moore responded this week that the allegation that he attempted to rape Beverly Young Nelson when she was 16 years old was “absolutely false.” Nelson claims that Moore signed her high school year book, but experts say the signature may have been forged. Gloria Allred, the pro-feminist attorney for Beverly Nelson, is evading the forgery issue, but any lawsuit will bring it to the forefront.

These claims are all tainted because none of these women came forth on their own. They were searched out and solicited by the Post, which tells me the Post was on a witch hunt. The Moore’s also say they have evidence some of these women were paid to accuse Moore:

“Going on two months now they’ve been on a witch hunt here in Etowah County and our state advertising people to step forward with accusations and we are gathering evidence of money being paid to people who would come forward. Which is part of why we are filing suit!” She added: “Washington establishment and Democrat Party will stop at nothing to stop our campaign. Prayers appreciated.

Fox News icon Sean Hannity recently demanded that “Moore must explain inconsistencies and remove any doubt within 24 Hours” or “get out of this race.” —an impossible task given hearsay evidence involved in multiple claims of varying degrees of seriousness. It’s also very difficult to prove a negative—that something didn’t happen.

As the Gateway Pundit pointed out, accuser Corfman has a history of make accusations against people on the Right:

Corfman has been divorced three times, filed for bankruptcy three times and has been charged with multiple misdemeanors. She has reportedly “claimed several pastors at various churches made sexual advances at her.”

As I’ve looked at the overall accusations I found some compelling evidence that Moore did use very bad judgment as a 32 year old lawyer, cruising the mall in small downtown Gadsten, Alabama to pick up high school age girls. According to the detailed hit piece in the New Yorker, Moore got himself informally banned from the mall. His being an older man soliciting dates from teens was rightly viewed as improper behavior.

The Gadsden Mall opened in 1974. It has two department stores… Greg Legat, who is now fifty-nine and living in East Gadsden, was, from 1981 to 1985, an employee at the Record Bar, a store that was in the Gadsden Mall. By the early eighties, Legat told me, the mall was “the place to be. There were no empty stores. And lots of kids came around. Lots of teen-agers. You went there to see and be seen.” [Typical mall behavior, especially when malls were new.]

Roy Moore was, many people say, a regular visitor to the mall… the Post reports that several other women who used to work there remembered Moore’s frequent presence—“usually alone” and “well-dressed in slacks and a button-down shirt.”

This past weekend, I spoke or messaged with more than a dozen people—including a major political figure in the state—who told me that they had heard, over the years, that Moore had been banned from the mall because he repeatedly badgered teen-age girls. Some say that they heard this at the time, others in the years since. These people include five members of the local legal community, two cops who worked in the town, several people who hung out at the mall in the early eighties, and a number of former mall employees… Teresa Jones, a deputy district attorney for Etowah County in the early eighties, told CNN last week that “it was common knowledge that Roy dated high-school girls.” Jones told me that she couldn’t confirm the alleged mall banning, but said, “It’s a rumor I’ve heard for years.”

So, there’s hearsay evidence of his cruising the mall, but in and of itself it’s not particularly damning—especially since the former manager of the Gadsden Mall said in an interview that Moore was not banned from the mall. If the Right were to use such evidence against a leftist or mainstream politician, they’d be widely ridiculed.

Media Hypocrisy: Compare this kind of exaggerated coverage on Moore to the media’s “ho hum” coverage of the very detailed claims of Juanita Broaderick detailing her rape by Bill Clinton when governor of Arkansas. The media sent out no investigators to help her corroborate her claims and disregarded or dismissed all the evidence she provided. Reason Magazine discussed the media refusal to give credence to Broaderick when it was about to affect Hillary’s bid for president.

Hypocrisy of Congress: Congressmen and Senators, and even senior staffers working for them are notorious for making unwanted advances on women secretaries and interns, as Kristina Wong of Breitbart News revealed:

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill are so predatory that female staffers are advised not to ride in elevators alone with them, according to accounts compiled by CNN. Females are also admonished to be careful of male lawmakers who sleep in their offices — another “unwritten” rule that women on Capitol Hill live by, according to the outlet.

The outlet spoke to more than 50 lawmakers, current and former staffers, and other political veterans, who revealed a culture so rife with sexual harassment that there is an informal “creep list” of lawmakers to avoid.

“Multiple women” told CNN that elevators on Capitol Hill are a place where “staff and members prey on women.” One former staffer remembers a senator — who is still in office — stroking the inside of her palm in a suggestive way, when she was introduced to him by her male boss, another senator.

The “creep list” of male lawmakers — mostly in the House of Representatives but also in the Senate — are “notorious for inappropriate or predatory behavior,” according to the story. A female congresswoman said “half are harassers,” of her male counterparts, before quickly adding, only “some are harassers.”

Some told CNN there are women who will reciprocate the sexual advances in order to advance their careers. “There’s a little bit of a sex trade on Capitol Hill. If a part of getting ahead on Capitol Hill is playing ball with whatever douchebag — then whatever,” one female political veteran who worked on Capitol Hill told CNN.

Another female congresswoman told CNN that she has been sexually harassed by her male colleagues “numerous times,” but saw little upside to speaking out. “I need these guys’ votes,” she said. “In this body, you may be an enemy one day and a close ally the next when accomplishing something. … So women will be very cautious about saying anything negative about any of their colleagues.”

There’s a dark reason why this atmosphere of sexual harassment flourishes on Capitol Hill—there’s a 1995 law that protects lawmakers and forces the taxpayers to foot the bill if any settlements are paid out—over $15M so far. The Washington Post described the law:

Interns have limited harassment protections under the unique employment law that Congress applies to itself. Congress makes its own rules about the handling of sexual complaints against members and staff, passing laws exempting it from practices that apply to other employers.

The result is a culture in which some lawmakers suspect harassment is rampant. Yet victims are unlikely to come forward, according to attorneys who represent them.

Under a law in place since 1995, accusers may file lawsuits only if they first agree to go through months of counseling and mediation. A special congressional office is charged with trying to resolve the cases out of court.

When settlements do occur, members do not pay them from their own office funds, a requirement in other federal agencies. Instead, the confidential payments come out of a special U.S. Treasury fund.

Congressional employees have received small settlements, compared with the amounts some public figures pay out. Between 1997 and 2014, the U.S. Treasury has paid $15.2 million in 235 awards and settlements for Capitol Hill workplace violations, according to the congressional Office of Compliance. The statistics do not break down the exact nature of the violations.

Incredibly, the Senate response to all this harassment exposure is not to repeal the 1995 law but to pass a mandatory training bill. As Mark Levin wrote,

Senators passed legislation that they have mandatory sexual harassment training. There must be an epidemic for Senators to push this resolution so that they can control themselves. We have people working in the Senate who feel unsafe and uncomfortable, yet we have most Senators coming out and trashing Roy Moore. We don’t need lectures from the inside the beltway crowd who have to pass a measure against themselves.

But despite all the media and Republican establishment pressure for Moore to step down, he is refusing to do so. Many Alabamians also see that this is a media witch hunt and plan on voting for Moore despite the pressure. Remember that Alabama just went through a Republican primary where they saw the establishment weigh in heavily against Moore and in favor of a RINO Republican, Luther Strange (who they are pushing to run a write-in campaign against Moore). So, I think they are seeing through this entire manufactured scandal. Even the anti-conservative Hill.com admits that Moore still has a 6 point lead in the race.

Alabama Senate GOP candidate Roy Moore leads his Democratic opponent Doug Jones by 6 points in a new poll amid fallout over decades-old allegations of sexual misconduct against Moore.

Support for Moore has dropped 3 points from a poll two weeks ago, while Jones has gained 2 points this month amid mounting calls from Republicans for Moore to drop out of the race in the aftermath of allegations of sexual misconduct.

When asked if the recent allegations that Moore had a sexual encounter with a teenager had influenced their choice, 36 percent of likely voters said they had planned to vote for his opponent anyway.

Another 35 percent said the allegations made them more likely to vote for Moore, while 11 percent said they were less likely to vote for the Republican.

Among those calling for Moore to drop out of the race are Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.), who leads the Senate Republicans’ campaign arm
