WILL MIDEAST WAR ENGULF THE UNITED STATES?

Lowell Ponte explains culprits behind oil-based chaos

Many fear a shooting war might soon ignite in the Persian Gulf and shut down its 21-mile-wide Strait of Hormuz, through which daily ships roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply, about 21 million barrels. Iran controls the eastern side of this “jugular vein” of the oil-dependent global economy.

As President Trump’s sanctions to stop Iran’s nuclear weapons program have devastated the rogue nation’s oil-based economy, it has engaged in increasingly provocative actions.

In recent days, Iran has seized two British-related oil tankers. In the multinational oil business, this could mean that the United Kingdom has invested in both ships and/or their cargoes, although one or the other ship may be “owned” by a Sweden-based company or fly a Liberian registry flag.

Iran captured the crews of these tankers, neither of which included a single British or American citizen. The captain and most of the crew of one were from India, but included members who were Russian, Latvian and Filipino.

Iran or its Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps gave a variety of reasons for illegally seizing these tankers, including accusations of pollution, deviating from traffic patterns, ignoring distress calls and being involved in an accident with a fishing boat. Closer to their real intent was “reciprocal action” because, two weeks earlier, British forces near Gibralter took into custody an Iranian tanker, Grace 1, for engaging in illegal trade with Syria.

Britain right now is stretched by ruling party turmoil at home and by a Royal Navy desperately short of ships to confront Iran in the Persian Gulf. Even so, it reportedly plans to land amphibious forces and take control on an island in the gulf to demonstrate its power and fortitude. It relies on its ally the United States to make up for any British lack of forces.

As President Trump knows, nearby we have the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group and the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group, both of which have been kept outside the Strait of Hormuz.

This positioning of our forces has not been publicly explained. But the major powers are now developing hypersonic anti-ship missiles, laser and other ray cannons that can strike at the speed of light, and Electro-Magnetic Pulse (EMP) weapons that can blind an opponent’s computers. How small a gulf would you want your navy to be in?

In “America Engulfed,” a chapter in our book “The Great Debasement,” Craig R. Smith and I explain how incredibly vulnerable our navy could be in the Persian Gulf. The Athenian fleet was destroyed 2,400 years ago, trapped in the narrow harbor at Syracuse.

We also explained that in 1971, when President Richard Nixon broke the last link between gold and the value of the dollar, he did so after making a deal with Saudi Arabia that it would sell its oil only for U.S. dollars … in exchange for the U.S. militarily defending this global center of Islam with our military and the blood of our young. This is why Thomas Jefferson warned against “entangling alliances.”

By this shift from a gold standard to an oil or petrodollar standard, the dollar remained the world reserve currency. Our dollar and economy depend on the Persian Gulf.

Several Iranian leaders are reportedly eager to enter into new negotiations to end U.S. trade sanctions. Trouble is, President Trump would be dealing with a medieval Islamist régime – the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism – with a theocratic régime whose leaders are “Twelvers,” who believe that through global apocalyptic war they can turn Earth into an Islamic planet.

President Trump would also be expected to sign an agreement with Iranian leaders who believe in the Islamist doctrine of Al Taqiyya, the belief that Allah gives them a “license to lie,” to say or sign anything to deceive non-believers that brings the triumph of Islam. In Shiite Iran, Taqiyya may even be used to deceive fellow Muslims who are Sunni, of the rival sect embraced by 85 percent of Muslims.

Hillary Clinton gave 20 percent of America’s uranium reserves to Russia, which promptly rewarded her slush-fund foundation with $145 million dollars. Russia then signed an agreement to build nuclear reactors for Iran, at least one of which is finished, and to provide radioactive fuel for those reactors.

If Iranian terrorists become the delivery system to target atomic bombs (God forbid!) on Washington, D.C., or New York City, Houston, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Seattle, Phoenix, San Francisco or Los Angeles, Iran’s radioactive materials that create those weapons might have come via Russia from Hillary Clinton.
