PELOSI’S COMMENTS REVEAL THE TRUTH: DEMS ARE IMPEACHING TRUMP TO PREVENT THE OUTBREAK OF PEACE!

THE TARGET OF IMPEACHMENT IS NOT JUST TRUMP, BUT DESTRUCTION OF THE AMERICAN PRESIDENTIAL SYSTEM

by: Harley Schlanger

Dec. 20 — The vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on December 18, in favor of two articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump, has virtually no chance of succeeding in his removal.  To oust him requires a two-thirds vote in the Senate, which will almost certainly not happen, as Republicans hold the majority there and remain firmly in support of the President.  Further, the two articles, one for “abuse of power” and the other for “obstruction of Congress”, were not proven, despite weeks of hearings in which the testimony of anti-Trump officials was largely unchallenged, as the Democrats in control of the process established rules which severely limited the ability of Trump’s allies to present a defense.  However, even with the limitations placed on them, Republican Congressmen poked huge holes through the farcical claims the Democrats raised against him.

As a result, the attempt to use the hearings to build momentum for impeachment among voters has failed miserably, as polls show declining support for his removal, including among likely Democratic voters.  Many voters have concluded correctly that the impeachment process has been an example of extreme partisanship, which was proven by the votes, which with the exception of two Democrats who voted against the first article, and three against the second, went entirely along party lines.

Given that it is therefore highly unlikely that he will be removed, why has the nation been put through this highly destabilizing exercise?

In a thoughtfully provocative open letter written by President Trump to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, released the day before the House voted to impeach him, he usefully provides some polemical insights into this question.  He excoriates Pelosi and her party for running what he called an “election nullifying scheme.”  He details why the case presented against him, under the direction of Rep. Adam Schiff, was a fabrication from the beginning, in which no evidence could be presented that he had pressured President Zelenski of Ukraine to give him “dirt” on his opponent, Joe Biden — the basis of the “abuse of power” charge — because that did not happen!  As for obstruction of Congress, he states that his refusal to provide Congress with documents and access to interrogate White House officials is justified by “Constitutionally based privileges that have been asserted on a bipartisan basis by administrations of both political parties throughout our nation’s history.”

He then correctly points out that those involved in the coup against him have been organizing for his removal from the time of his inauguration, long before his call was made to Ukraine’s president, beginning with the fabricated and now-thoroughly discredited Russiagate story against him.  The failure of special counsel Mueller to find evidence of “collusion” with Russia, or obstruction of justice, did not stop them, as they pivoted to advancing the equally fraudulent Ukrainegate narrative.  He accused Pelosi of developing “what many in the media call Trump Derangement Syndrome” over the loss to him by Hillary Clinton in 2016, as motivating the attack.  Addressing Pelosi, he writes, “You are unwilling and unable to accept the verdict issued at the ballot box….So you have spent three straight years attempting to overturn the will of the American people and nullify their votes.”  After reviewing the continuing assaults against his presidency and him personally, he charges, “You are the ones interfering in America’s elections.  You are the ones subverting America’s democracy.”

This latter point is highly ironic, as that is what the anti-Trumpers accuse him of doing, when they allege he colluded with Putin to win in 2016, and that he then bullied Ukraine, to attain their support to use against Biden in 2020.  In this, they are circling back to the Russiagate story, claiming that Trump is still operating as an agent of Putin, and that his call for investigating Ukraine’s role in Russiagate is proof that he is still trying to cover for Russian meddling in the election.  This was explicitly referenced by Rep. Schiff in his summary of the urgency for impeachment when he said, “The argument, ‘why don’t you just wait?’ comes down to this.  Why don’t you let him cheat in just one more election?  Why not let him have foreign  help one more time?”

THE REAL TARGET: THE AMERICAN PRESIDENCY

In his letter, Trump identifies the deeper issue underlying the efforts to pull off a regime change coup against him.  “You are turning a policy disagreement between two branches of government into an impeachable offense — it is no more legitimate than the Executive Branch charging members of Congress with crimes for the lawful exercise of legislative power.”  The Ukraine case is a perfect example of this, as a parade of officials from the State Department and the intelligence community — with full support from Congressional Democrats –fumed about how Trump went around them, rejecting their “expertise”, in his efforts to confirm that the government of Ukraine was addressing the pervasive corruption there, as he was obligated to do by Congressional instructions, before releasing military aid.

This issue has been raised by constitutional scholar Alan Dershowitz in a series of interviews before and after the vote.  Dershowitz, a Democrat who supported Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election, has been an impassioned critic of the present impeachment process, warning that, in the absence of any provable evidence of “Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes or Misdemeanors” — the criteria specified in the Constitution as necessary for removal of a President — using impeachment to resolve policy disputes would set a dangerous precedent, one fully at odds with the intent of the Founders.  In a December 16 interview on CSPAN’s “Washington Journal”, he said that the articles of impeachment passed by the House represent a “broad, general, vague, open-ended criteria that can be weaponized…when the opposing party has a majority in the House.”

Citing the arguments presented by Alexander Hamilton in letter 65 of the “Federalist Papers”, he referred to this “weaponization” as “Hamilton’s nightmare”, in which impeachment “would turn on the number of votes each party had [in the House], rather than on guilt or innocence of the person being impeached.”  He added that James Madison shared Hamilton’s concern, saying he “worried about the open-ended criteria [for impeachment] making the president serve at the will of the Congress, making the kind of parliamentary democracy we fought against in the revolution against Great Britain.  We didn’t want a parliamentary democracy in which a president can be thrown out of office by a vote of non-confidence.”

Madison was the coauthor, with Hamilton, of the majority of the letters which are known as the “Federalist Papers,” which were written to win support for the Constitution which was written following the successful defeat of the British Empire by its former American colonies.  Dershowitz’s comments were echoed by professor Jonathan Turley, who also identifies as a Democrat, who testified against impeachment in a session before the Judiciary Committee.  The other three “scholars” who spoke at the hearing were vehement anti-Trumpers, whose sophistical arguments for impeachment were repeatedly cited by the Democrats, who piously proclaimed their undying loyalty to the Founding Fathers and their Constitution, while trampling on the actual intent of the document they insisted they were defending!

DEFENDING THE CONSTITUTION

The battle over strategic policy, between Trump and the permanent bureaucracy, which he is now calling the Military Industrial Complex (MIC), is the actual cause for the regime change coup underway against him since 2016.  It is not limited to his Ukraine policy, as is evident in statements from Pelosi and her henchmen.  As their Ukraine gambit has failed to gain traction with voters, they are defaulting back to the Russiagate story, claiming that Trump is still operating as an agent of Putin.  This is what Pelosi meant when she said, “This isn’t about Ukraine.  It’s about Russia….All roads lead to Putin.”

What Pelosi and the regime changers in the intelligence community and the media are really objecting to is Trump’s intent to break with the British imperial geopolitical policy which has been the key factor in shaping U.S. strategic policy since the end of World War II, and has been enforced with a vengeance since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.  This British-directed policy requires that U.S. military and economic power unilaterally be employed to enforce the globalized, “free market” financial system, which is tearing down the real physical economy in the advanced sector, while imposing brutal austerity regimes in the developing sector, while using the control of private central banks to keep a flow of funds into the unsustainable bubbles, which they insist are signs of prosperity and economic health.  Under this geopolitical doctrine, any nation which asserts sovereign rights to object to this “New World Order” is a target for destabilization, regime change coups, and destructive wars.

Trump was elected by American voters who were tired of these endless wars, which benefitted the MIC, but at a tremendous cost to the nation, which was passed on to the average person.  Instead of following the examples of the Bushes, Obama and Hillary Clinton, who dutifully followed the commands of the imperial forces, Trump promised to pursue cooperation with Russia and China, to fight against terrorism and against unfair trade agreements, and in defense of the sovereignty of nations.  In collaboration with Russia and China, he has made progress with North Korea, with ending the civil war in Syria which was backed by Obama and the NATO allies, and now, despite the efforts to use Ukrainegate against him, to resolve the fighting in eastern Ukraine.  The progress in these areas is directly threatened by the actions in Congress which, in addition to impeachment, include imposing tough sanctions against Trump’s would-be partners, and offering continued military and diplomatic support for regime change wars, as in the recently passed Hong Kong Democracy and Human Rights Act, which undermines progress made in the ongoing trade talks with China.

Such efforts by British-directed forces against the sovereign interests of the U.S. are not new, but extend to a long tradition of imperial policy, back to the battles which led to the founding of the United States.  This intention was summarized in a paper presented by American statesman Lyndon LaRouche, “A World System in Collapse”, written on January 29, 2008, shortly before the near-implosion of the global financial system in September of that year.  LaRouche presciently wrote,   “The object of London and its foolish U.S. and continental European sympathizers, in the present attempt to destroy the U.S. through economic-financial warfare, and related means, is the intention to eliminate the role of the U.S.A. as a global factor altogether. Were that effort of the British and their tamed continental fools to succeed, the entire world would be plunged into a general (i.e., global) financial-economic breakdown-crisis, a financial-monetary crisis comparable to, but more severe in its effects than the crash of the Lombard banking house of Bardi.”

The fear which drives those out to destroy the potential of the Trump presidency is that, as the strategic crisis deepens, he may chose to adopt the solutions proposed by LaRouche in that paper, which are consistent with the American constitutional tradition, with its granting of special powers to a strong President in conducting foreign policy, and would mean a decisive defeat for the British imperial system.  While LaRouche’s paper was based on his July 2007 forecast of a coming banking crash — which proved to be accurate — the fact that the City of London/Wall Street neoliberals used the Bush and Obama presidencies to continue the policies which led to that crash, has created the danger of an even bigger crash coming today.  It is therefore urgent that the solution proposed by LaRouche in that paper serve as the basis for a counter to the insanity of the continuing impeachment efforts against Trump.

LaRouche wrote, The global breakdown-crisis currently in progress demands that we establish a global system of cooperation among an effective majority of nations which are either sovereign nation-states in the strict sense of the term, or are candidates to become sovereign.

“The presently onrushing, general, planetary breakdown-crisis, requires an initiating role among four key sovereign nation-states: the U.S.A., Russia, China, and India, and, in addition to these, also others. The immediate purpose is to establish a system of treaty-agreements which, in effect, freeze, or approximately freeze, the ratios among national currencies to approximately their present levels.

“This agreement must be buttressed and enhanced by certain other measures:

“A new international fixed-exchange-rate system based on intentions congruent with the broad intentions of U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt for the post-war world.

“The creation of a mass of international state-credit for specific major developmental projects within and among nations under provisions of nested sets of treaty agreements with life-expectancies of a quarter to half a century, or, in some cases, longer. The title for such a nested set of agreements must be “the common aims of mankind.”

“Many of these projects are already implicitly in the process of discussion. We should start there, with emphasis on basic economic infrastructure.

“Only an alliance of that sort, based on such common economic goals of progress and security, could enable us to reorganize the presently bankrupt world monetary-financial system in an orderly fashion. This approach is the only workable approach to international security under the conditions existing at this moment.”

The potential that Trump would adopt the “LaRouche solution” of American System methods, using the constitutional powers given to the U.S. President, is what is driving the dangerous and foolish efforts of those who have deployed against him since he secured the Republican nomination in the summer of 2016.  Ultimately, for Trump to succeed, the best hope would be that he would openly fight for this solution to become the policy of the United States, to fulfill the anti-imperial promise of the American Revolution and its Constitution.

December 2019

Lest you, dear reader, think this headline is either wild hyperbole, or just plain crazy, read what House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said at a CNN town meeting on December 5, several hours after she announced the House of Representatives would draft articles of impeachment against President Trump.  She was asked why she had opposed impeaching President George W. Bush, when he lied that Iraq possessed weapons of mass destruction, to justify launching the devastating war against that country.  She admitted that, as Ranking Member of the Intelligence Committee, she had opposed the impeachment of President Bush, despite knowing that the justification for the Iraq War was fraudulent:

“…I knew there were no nuclear weapons in Iraq.  It just wasn’t there….The intelligence did not show that that was the case. So, I knew it was a misrepresentation to the public. But having said that, it was, in my view, not a ground for impeachment.”

Had this statement received the media coverage it deserves, an outraged public would be demanding to know how one who made such an admission could now be directing an impeachment drive against President Trump—which is really a regime change coup—when there has been no evidence presented that Trump committed an impeachable act, and especially when compared with the catastrophic results of the war launched in 2003 by Bush’s lies, aided by Pelosi’s passive acceptance of those lies.  The U.S. invasion of Iraq resulted in more than one million Iraqi deaths—approximately 275,000 deaths from the war itself, with an equal number wounded, and more than one million civilian deaths from starvation and disease in the post-war period, due to the destruction of the country.  There were also more than 8,000 American soldiers and contractors killed in this war, and continuing damage done to hundreds of thousands of American families, whose loved ones are now suffering PTSD or have committed suicide, which is occurring at the rate of 22 veterans per day. The Iraq war also contributed substantially to the advance of terrorism, with ISIS emerging from the ruins of Iraq, as well as the refugee crisis, with millions fleeing the war zone seeking some respite.  Further, the war shattered the credibility of so-called western values, human rights, and democracy in the entire world.  Additionally, the Iraq war, combined with the continuing war in Afghanistan, as part of the post-9/11 policy of endless wars, has cost more than $7 trillion dollars—a sum which therefore was not available for investment in the physical economy of the United States.

To dismiss this horrible waste and destruction as the result of a “misrepresentation” not worthy of impeachment ought to disqualify Pelosi from having anything to do with matters of national security!

In his 2016 campaign for President, Donald Trump called this war the biggest mistake in U.S. history.  He pledged he would end the “endless wars”, and would work to establish cooperative relationships with Russia and China.  As President, he has been keeping this promise, despite the vicious attacks accusing him of being a puppet of Putin.  These attacks, from Russiagate to Ukrainegate, are designed to prevent him from breaking with the unilateralist, imperial geopolitical strategy of his predecessors, Bush and Obama, which led to those wars.  It is no surprise that those who launched the coup against him, from British intelligence networks in GCHQ and MI6, the Obama intelligence team, Congressional Democrats, and major media in the U.S. and the U.K., demand continuing the wars in the Middle East, and campaign for military escalation against Russia and China.

“ALL ROADS LEAD TO PUTIN”

Following show trial impeachment hearings the last three weeks, lead by Pelosi henchmen Adam Schiff and Jerrold Nadler, as chairman of the of the Intelligence and Judiciary Committees, two articles of impeachment have been drafted against Trump, and were passed, on a party line vote, by the Judiciary Committee.  The first charges that Trump abused the power of his office by withholding funds allocated by Congress for Ukraine, to purchase lethal weapons, until an investigation is launched by the Zelensky government into charges of corruption by former Vice President Joe Biden—which states that this amounts to soliciting interference by Ukraine in the 2020 campaign, since Biden is running against Trump.  The second charges Trump with obstruction of Congress, by withholding documents related to the case, and refusing to allow key administration personnel to be called before the Intelligence Committee for interrogation.

Republicans on the two Committees destroyed the case, pointing out that despite the claims that Trump abused his power, which began with a phony whistle blower complaint regarding a July 25 phone call between Trump and Zelensky, there is no evidence that Trump demanded a “quid pro quo” from Ukraine.  Further, the aid was delivered, and no investigation was announced.  Thus, they asked, where is the crime?  It should also be noted that the Democrats disallowed any testimony regarding evidence which is emerging that Ukraine interfered in the 2016 election against Trump, on behalf of Hillary Clinton’s candidacy.

Yet, day after day, Democrats repeat the same talking points, insisting that “the evidence is conclusive.”  Prior to drafting the articles of impeachment, on December 7, Nadler tweeted that Trump “abused his power, betrayed our national security and corrupted our elections, all for personal gain.”  In a press statement on December 12, when she announced the full House will vote on articles of impeachment next week, Pelosi intoned, “The facts are clear—irrefutable.”

Given the weakness of the case about Ukraine being pushed by Pelosi’s team, it comes as no surprise that many of the Democrats are coming back to the charge that it is still really about Trump’s election being orchestrated by Russian interference, circling back to the Mueller report.  Pelosi herself emphasized this in her December 5 press conference, when she said, “This isn’t about Ukraine.  It’s about Russia.  Who benefited by our withholding of that military assistance?  Russia!”

She continued: “Sometimes people say, ‘Well I don’t know about Ukraine.’  Well, our adversary in this is Russia.  All roads lead to Putin.”

This has become a common refrain from Democrats.  For example, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, whose Presidential campaign is going nowhere, ranted at a town hall meeting that those who defend Trump forget that special counsel Mueller’s report confirmed that Russia interfered, and cited Russia “expert” Fiona Hill, who testified before the Intelligence Committee that anyone who brings up the “fictional narrative” that Ukraine interfered against Trump in 2016 is promoting “Russian propaganda.”  This was also brought up by Schiff, who in his final statement before his committee, in which he demanded impeachment, referred to the disproven charge of Russian meddling, saying that to not remove Trump is to say, “Why don’t you let him cheat in just one more election?  Why not let him have foreign help one more time?”

TRUMP’S PEACE OFFENSIVE

As this psychodrama has been unfolding in Washington, there have been two striking developments which the war party is attempting to push into the background.  The first was the release on December 9 of the report of the Justice Department’s Inspector General (IG), Michael Horowitz, on the fraud committed by the FBI in launching the “Get Trump” operation during the campaign in 2016.  Horowitz pointed to 17 grievous errors committed by leading FBI officials in beginning the “spy” operation against the Trump campaign.  The most significant finding reported by Horowitz is that the FBI used the dossier produced by “former” MI6 operative Christopher Steele in applying to the FISA Court for a warrant to spy on the Trump campaign; and did this knowing that the dossier was a total fabrication, full of lies, which had been paid for by the Clinton campaign, which the FBI used anyway, in their filing.

This, and much more, was brought forward by Republican Senators during testimony given by Horowitz in a committee hearing on December 11, though what was highlighted by the Democrats and their media allies was his conclusion that there was cause to investigate the Trump campaign. This attempted cover-up was strongly countered by Attorney General Barr—who is conducting a much more thorough investigation into the origin of Russiagate—who said the that the Horowitz report detailed “gross abuses…and inexplicable behavior that is intolerable in the FBI…[which] leaves open the possibility that there was bad faith.”  He added that “our nation was turned on its head for three years based on a completely bogus narrative that was largely fanned and hyped by a completely irresponsible press.”  Both he and his lead prosecutor, John Durham will soon be presenting the case against the coup plotters.

Despite efforts by the anti-Trump media to downplay the findings of the IG’s report, it thoroughly discredits Jim Comey and his co-conspirators in the FBI, and makes a mockery of those, such as Adam Schiff, who continue to claim that the Steele Report is valid.  Schiff’s credibility as a prosecutor has been fatally damaged by this report, except for his deluded allies among Democrats, who are tenaciously pushing the intelligence community’s fabricated story of Russian hacking and meddling.

While the Barr-Durham report is not expected until possibly next spring, the question that still remains to be answered is why was this operation against Trump launched in the first place.  It is in looking at the second group of developments this last week that one can find the answer.  Trump is continuing to move decisively against the unilateralists of the war party, pushing for a redefinition of U.S. national interests in the best tradition of the American republic.  While those pushing impeachment continue to pursue provocative strategic policies which threaten the outbreak of more wars, including the possibility of super-power conflict between the U.S. and both Russia and China, Trump is conducting a peace offensive.  This week, he met with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, and spoke of the joint concern with pursuing a new arms accord, to eliminate the danger of nuclear war.  Two days earlier, Russian President Putin and Ukraine’s Zelensky opened a dialogue aimed at de-escalating the fighting underway in eastern Ukraine, a goal both president’s share with Trump.

In fact, by investigating the role played by the Obama administration in instigating and supporting the coup in Ukraine in February 2014, and its spill-over into a Ukrainian role in the 2016 election, Trump is providing an opening to oust the neo-Nazi battalions in Ukraine’s security forces which gave the muscle to the coup, and are engaged in continuing deadly, military provocations against the people of eastern Ukraine.  That Biden was Obama’s point man in Ukraine is obviously well known by Pelosi and her allies, who are using the assault against Trump to protect Biden and the British-linked imperial gang in the Obama intelligence community, which is responsible for Russiagate.  Their pivot to Ukrainegate is the height of hypocrisy, as those diplomats and intel officials who testified before the Schiff committee, proclaiming their concern that Trump was undermining Ukraine’s security, were directly involved in the economic and moral destruction of that nation.

One other initiative by Trump to end the wars of his predecessors was his Thanksgiving trip to Afghanistan.  Upon his return, he announced that he wants to cut further U.S. troop strength there, and renew negotiations with the Taliban to achieve a ceasefire—something which his opponents have been trying to stop, as they tried to intervene to prevent the successful coordinated actions to defeat terrorists in Syria—which again, involved cooperation between the U.S. and Russia.

Famed civil liberties attorney Alan Dershowitz stated that the coup against Trump, if the articles of impeachment pass in the House and a conviction is secured in the Senate, would turn the U.S. Constitutional Republic into a British parliamentary system, with the President becoming a mere figurehead, serving at the pleasure of the Senate, with the power to remove a President over style or policy disputes. The U.S. would then be formally controlled, as the British and European Parliaments are controlled, by a financial oligarchy centered in the central banks and the City of London, a modern imperial entity administered by academics, technocrats, and professional Mandarins, like all Empires in history, thus reversing the unique aspect of the U.S. as having a government “of, by, and for the people.”

It is therefore not insignificant that Pelosi and her team of coup plotters were guided, from the start, by an intervention by the historical enemy of the U.S., the British monarchy, acting through U.S. intelligence networks allied with the British.  Remember, Christopher Steele of the fabricated dossier, worked under MI6 head Sir Richard Deerlove, who operated behind the scenes to support Steele’s subversive activities, in Ukraine at the time of the Maidan coup, and in launching Russiagate.  This is the same Sir Richard who delivered another infamous fabricated dossier, which affirmed that Iraq possessed nuclear weapons, which was used to justify a war in a manner which Pelosi says did not merit impeachment.

Such dangerous hypocrisy must be fully exposed, so that the potential for peace which exists is not sabotaged by the lunatics issuing the marching orders to Pelosi and her gang.
